Bridging the gap between Systems and Users
Senior Instructional Designer | Content Writer/Available for full-time roles. /Resides in San Diego, California/Prefer Remote or Hybrid oportunities.
I’m Holly Behyan, Senior Instructional Designer, who transforms the use of software and other products) into clear, human-centered learning, most recently specializing in technology training for a global medical technology leader. With over 20 years of dedicated experience in the field of Instructional Design, I've spent the last 10 years ensuring customers know how to use a variety of software, and that internal employees are prepared to support end users for every quarterly software release. My approach is rooted in human-centered learning, ensuring that every solution I create is not technically sound and deeply resonates with the needs of learners and stakeholders. All recent work is proprietary and is not shown on this site.

Remote Support Services
Problem: Remote Support Services (RSS) is designed to remotely manage, diagnose, and support medical and laboratory devices used by customers. New RSS versions are released on a quarterly basis.
Solution: I created web‑based courses and job aids to support the use of a variety of RSS tools and help internal employees adopt new features with fewer issues.
Impact: "Within the first 30 days, customer support tickets dropped by 60%, "significantly improving user onboarding efficiency."
Featured Projects
Detecting Diversion
Problem: The company created one of its first ever software-only applications for customers. The application enabled three different hospital roles to complete and triage tasks in the software to investigate potential diversion. Product consultants agreed that each role should see the entire process in the training.
Solution: To address the application's role-based structure, I created an interactive Storyline course which allowed users to complete the tasks in all roles to better understand the application. It was determined that new versions would be released quarterly.
Impact: Within 30 days of the first product implementation, customers reported that the training "greatly improved user onboarding efficiency." Clinical users also provided positive feedback on the training. The curriculum is still used today.
Digital Adoption: Software Walk- throughs
Problem: Customers sometimes have to reach out for help, or file support tickets, while learning a new software tool. This can be frustrating and time-consuming.
Solution: At the same Med Tech company referenced above, I created "walk-throughs" for inventory optimization and diversion management healthcare analytics applications. Customers launch the steps, which reside "on top of" their software, to help them perform daily or new tasks.
Impact: Within the first 30 days of implementation, customers reported that "the walkthroughs improved user onboarding efficiency."
ADDIE Model
I use the ADDIE Model to bridge the gap between a user's current knowledge and the skills required to effectively use a software program. My goal is always to translate software features into effective task-based training to ensure effective use of the software. For example, I ensure the training is structured by workflow, with opportunities for hands-on practice.
About Me
Since I was a child, I’ve loved learning and helping others learn. After graduating from UC Santa Cruz with a B.A. in American Studies, I decided to become a teacher, until I discovered Educational Technology at San Diego State University, where I earned a Master's degree in the field. I’ve been consistently employed as an Instructional Designer ever since. I am currently available for full-time Instructional Design opportunities. Please view my resume or contact me to discuss how I can add value to your team.
